You don't have to bring a thing. We always have wine and munchies too – or if you prefer, buy food and drink from Room 39 next door and bring it over to our space. THE HORSES & DEER HAVE MOVED ON! by Becky
The incredible hedge wood horse sculptures made by Rachel Wilson, were sadly put into her trailer today and taken back to her home in Reeds, MO. They are still for sale, however, she says it's time to take them home, buff them and seal them, and get them ready to show again. Actually, we do have the largest horse, Big Boy, still out by the lake but he looks very lonely now!

She DOES create custom sculptures for clients. Her prices currently range from $500 - $8,000, but will surely be increasing over the next few years. (photos to right)
We sure will miss them! Hopefully Mission Farms will buy a couple to keep permanently… hint, hint

MAY CLASSES by Marissa
The deadline for May classes is quickly approaching! Don't worry though, you still have a few days to register for that class you might have forgotten to sign up for.
ALSO, we know that the month of May is chaotic for everyone with all the various social events you have. So, in order to best serve our students, we would be happy to have you pay only for the classes that you CAN attend. Simply let us know how many classes you will be coming to, and we will have you pay accordingly on the first day of class.
We look forward to seeing you all in class!

CREATIVE KIDS CLASS by Becky
Check out these great daffodil paintings created by the Creative Kids class this month! We have had a great time learning to mix colors, blend, and experiment with different painting techniques. I am so impressed with how great this group listens and follows directions. They are only 4 - 7 years old! If only my adult students would cooperate so nicely... ha, just jokin'! Great job, creative kids! (photo to right)

EXCITEMENT & LOVE AT ARTICHOKES, by Gina
ARTichokes was filled with the excitement of love last Tuesday afternoon when Chad arranged with us to have a scavenger hunt (unknown to her) for his girlfriend, Jody. He came in with a framed photo of her engagement ring which we placed on a wall with the art for her to hopefully notice. They had a nice lunch at Blue Koi and strolled the shops in Mission Farms, then arrived at ARTichokes for the exciting moment. I greeted them as any other customer, and then let them look around. Jody walked right past the photo of her ring, making Chad a little nervous, but then she stopped and took a second look and her face was so very surprised. Chad then dropped to his knee and proposed to her. She said YES and they then celebrated with a bottle of Champagne. CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES to the happy couple!!! (photos to the right)

MEGA TEAM-BUILDER EVENT FOR JOHN DEERE by Becky
ARTichokes was the venue for 3 separate team-builder events for John Deere employees this month! The guests were from all over the world, even Australia! It was a smashing success. Over 140 people got to taste locally made wine by Jowler Creek Winery, sample homemade cheese from The Better Cheddar, drink beer from Flying Monkey Brewery, eat Jack Stack BBQ, and create 18 Group Paintings! Yes, that is 6 Group Paintings per night… Kristin and I didn't have much time with each group, but we definitely made the most of it. Most of the guests had NEVER painted in their lives, and truly enjoyed the process. It was fun for everyone, and many said it was the best team-builder they had ever attended. Hooray! Great job planning this one, Laurie (manager of ARTichokes). And thank you to Stacy at John Deere for thinking of ARTichokes for this event. It was a pleasure working with all of you. We hope it made a great memory for everyone involved. Watch out, creativity is CONTAGIOUS!

BILLYO O'DONNELL PLEIN AIR WORKSHOP by Marissa
I am so excited to announce that our very own featured artist Billyo O'Donnell will be hosting a two day workshop here at ARTichokes. This class will allow all of us to stretch our legs, get outside and enjoy some of that beautiful sunshine we have all been craving!
Billyo, whose art is currently being showcased on the front wall at ARTichokes, will be teaching a plein air class May 3rd and 4th from 9am to 4pm. Students will receive personal instruction from O'Donnell as well as the opportunity to experience parts of Kansas City in a completely new and brilliant way. There are limited spots available for this class, so give us a call at 913-322-9481 and see if you can be part of this unique experience.

MIKE SAVAGE & ARTICHOKES by Marissa
It seems that ARTichokes just can't get enough of the local phenom, Mike Savage. In March we teamed up again to support our local high school, Shawnee Mission East, by hosting the artist in our studio to teach some very lucky students.
Each artist bid at the SME auction for a spot in the class, with the proceeds going to benefit the students and school of Shawnee Mission East. Upon arriving at ARTichokes, the artists were greeted by the always jovial Mr. Savage. Mike then spent two hours with the class instructing them in all things Savage. As you can see, he is one first-rate instructor…sometimes it is hard to tell the difference between instructor and student!

BE AN ART COLLECTOR by Becky
Do you want to start collecting art, but find yourself completely intimidated? It's easy! Start small, and buy only ORIGINAL art that "speaks" to you. Don't buy art because it matches your sofa, or is the perfect size – buy it because you can't stand the idea of that piece going home with anyone else. Don't buy art strictly for a financial return on your investment either – there is no way to guarantee its future value. Invest in Fine Art because you want to support the artist by adding their piece to your "collection". Whether $200 or $50,000, the art in your home should be meaningful to you. Remember, your art says a lot about you to others. So, are you an art collector? If not, it's a great time to start!

Spring Break!! We'll be having Open Studio from 10-3 on Tues, Wed and Thurs this week! Friday will be an All Day Open Studio from 10-9. Come paint with us....

Well, our February classes are ending this week. What a creative time we had! We will be having Open Studio next week, during Spring Break, for those of you staying in town, and of course, all day on Fridays every week. Our next classes will begin the first week of April. Spring is finally coming! It's about time…

Wow! Over 12,000 people attend the Homes & Garden Show this weekend and now they all know about ARTichokes! Gina and I smiled and talked until our mouths went dry – it was actually fun.
